Abstract
The stability of a flat laminar boundary layer on a nonuniformly heate d surface is investigated. It is shown that, in contrast to standard i deas, waves propagating at an angle with respect to the direction of t he main flow can have high growth rates and this leads to earlier onse t of turbulence.
