ION-EXCHANGE RESINS IN CORN SWEETENER PROCESSING

The roles of resins and adsorbents in corn sweetener production are re viewed, These include decolorisation of the syrup, deashing by ion exc hange (both dextrose- side and fructose- side), chromatographic separa tion to enrich the HFCS and mixed bed polishing of the final product. The importance of uniform resin particle size is explained and informa tion is given about a new weak base anion resin, which allows longer r uns between regenerations and therefore reduced costs.
