Fj. Marquez et al., GROWTH-CHARACTERISTICS OF SPIRULINA-PLATENSIS IN MIXOTROPHIC AND HETEROTROPHIC CONDITIONS, Journal of fermentation and bioengineering, 76(5), 1993, pp. 408-410
Spirulina platensis was able to grow on glucose heterotrophically in a
erobic-dark conditions as well as mixotrophycally in the light. The ce
ll concentration of the mixotrophic cultures corresponded well to the
sum of the autotrophic and heterotrophic cell concentrations. These re
sults suggested that autotrophic (photosynthesis) and heterotrophic (o
xidative metabolism of glucose) growth functioned independently in mix
otrophic growth on glucose.
