P. Fromherz et al., NEURON TRANSISTOR - ELECTRICAL TRANSFER-FUNCTION MEASURED BY THE PATCH-CLAMP TECHNIQUE, Physical review letters, 71(24), 1993, pp. 4079-4082
Leech neurons are attached to metal-free field-effect transistors in e
lectrolyte. The voltage in a neuron is controlled through a pipette fu
sed to its membrane. Gaussian transients and ac voltages are applied.
The response of the source-drain current is measured. Two types of neu
ron-transistor couplings are observed. (A) Efficient coupling above 10
0 Hz with a phase shift of 90-degrees. (B) Efficient coupling from 0.1
-1000 Hz without a phase shift. The responses are described by a circu
it made of capacitance and resistance of the membrane, by the gate cap
acitance and by the resistance of the junction.
