Ai. Efimov et al., ON THE DETECTION OF MHD WAVES IN THE CIRC UMSOLAR PLASMA USING THE RADIO OCCULTATION METHOD, ASTRONOM ZH, 70(5), 1993, pp. 1075-1085
A theoretical analysis of the effect of MHD waves in the solar-wind pl
asma on the radiowaves' characteristics found by the occullation metho
d, is carried out. It is shown that plasma irregularities, connected w
ith the interaction, between Alfven and magnetosonic waves, have a spe
cific influence on the temporal spectrum of the amplitude fluctuations
and on the correlation function of the frequency fluctuations of radi
owaves. The results are discussed on plasma velocity estimations by me
asurements of radiowave amplitude fluctuations at a single ground-base
d point and by the crosscorrelation analysis of the frequency fluctuat
ions measured at two spaced receiving points. The velocity determined
by these methods is shown to be a superposition of solar wind velocity
and slow magnetosonic waves' phase velocity. The data on solar wind v
elocity and slow magnetosonic waves velocity in the region of the main
solar wind acceleration are presented. The wave nature of the small-s
cale irregularities in the circumsolar plasma is confirmed.
