Gold(III) halides form with 3- and 4-quinolinecarboxylic acids complex
es of the types [(H3O)(HQA)(2)][AuX(4)] for X = Cl or Br and AuX(3)(HQ
A)(n), where n P 1 for X = Cl or Br and n = 2 for X = I, The complexes
were isolated and characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity a
nd spectra. In the solid state the gold atom is in an elongated octahe
dral coordination environment in [(H3O)(HQA)(2)][AuX(4)]. The stereoch
emistries of the other complexes are discussed in relation to the numb
er of their gold-halogen frequencies observed in the far infrared regi
on.
