Abstract
A model of free jet trajectory at an overfall and the resulting shear distribution in the plunge pool has been developed. The model utilizes end depth relationships and simple particle physics to predict jet tr ajectory. Classical jet theory is coupled with empirical information t o develop algorithms for predicting plunge pool shear distributions. T he model performs well predicting the trajectories of well-ventilated jets but requires improvement when dealing with non--ventilated jets. The model performs satisfactorily predicting shear distributions below an overfall.
