Abstract
Oxy-fuel firing is currently being proposed for use in glass furnaces because it meets the tight requirements of environmental regulations a nd increased pull. Following a problem in the recuperator of one of it s furnaces, Cam Elyaf San AS, a Turkish fibre manufacturer, employed t his technique to alleviate this particular problem. The company perfor med a full scale trial to investigate the effects of oxy-fuel firing o n fibre production, glass quality, pull rate, waste gas conditions and any other benefits in order to identify future use. This may be the f irst full scale demonstration on a fibre glass furnace in the world, a nd the results showed that oxy-fuel technology can be either partially or fully applied without affecting production while improving furnace and recuperator life, glass quality, fuel consumption and pull rate o f the furnace.
