Abstract
A possible mechanism for the reductive deamination of primary amines ( RNH(2)-->RH) by HNF2 is presented. The initial step involves bimolecul ar displacement of F from HNF2 by RNH(2). The subsequent series of int ermediates proposed is supported by proton affinity data and literatur e analogies. The role of fluorine in affecting amine basicity is also delineated.
