Abstract
In this, the second of a two-part paper, the testing of a half-scale m odel of a retrofit concept for the San Francisco double-deck viaducts is discussed The model was tested under simulated transverse, longitud inal, and diagonal response configurations. Peak displacements corresp onded to proto-type displacement ductility levels of 5.5 and 8 in long itudinal and transverse directions, respectively, and were limited by deflection capabilities of the testing system rather than by structura l performance. Performance of critical elements, including the columns , the prestressed cap-beam and the cap-beam column joint region perfor med to, or above, predicted behavior. Extensive instrumentation of the model allowed detailed analysis of the response of the model, which i s summarized in the paper.
