PERCEPTIONS OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT

This paper focuses on people's perceptions of sexual harassment. Defin itions of sexual harassment arc presented, previous studies of sexual harassment are reviewed, and the results of a two-part study are prese nted. Examined are the possible influence of sex, gender role socializ ation, organizational and socio-cultural power differentials, and type and severity of behavior on perceptions of sexual harassment. The dat a suggest that gender role socialization is the primary influence on p erceptions of sexual harassment.
