This paper focuses on people's perceptions of sexual harassment. Defin
itions of sexual harassment arc presented, previous studies of sexual
harassment are reviewed, and the results of a two-part study are prese
nted. Examined are the possible influence of sex, gender role socializ
ation, organizational and socio-cultural power differentials, and type
and severity of behavior on perceptions of sexual harassment. The dat
a suggest that gender role socialization is the primary influence on p
erceptions of sexual harassment.
