C. Guerin et al., RAPID DIAGNOSIS OF CONTAGIOUS CAPRINE PLEUROPNEUMONIA IN PLEURAL FLUIDS BY IMMUNOBINDING ASSAY, Small ruminant research, 12(2), 1993, pp. 193-200
A diagnostic method for contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP), due
to Mycoplasma sp. F38 is described. Mycoplasmal antigens were directl
y detected in pleural fluids by an indirect immunobinding assay. The m
ethod is rapid and sensitive but there exist cross-reactions within th
e 'mycoides cluster, especially with Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoid
es LC (MmLC). Cross-reactivity may be minimized by testing samples aga
inst different antisera. Immunobinding assay is proposed as a rapid di
agnostic tool for field diagnosis of CCPP, and to increase the probabi
lity of isolating Mycoplasma sp. F38.
