The aim of the study is to draw attention to bullying as a serious soc
ial phenomenon which in some countries already has become object of li
vely interest of psychologists and workers in education. After pointin
g to the intricacies of defining bullying and after a sketch of its ph
enomenology, main research topics representing different possibilities
to tackle the problem are introduced. Selected illustrative results o
f empirical investigations are also mentioned. Theoretical problems co
nnected with bullying are stressed and several explanatory hypotheses
are offered.
