An investigation has been made of the influence of the nature of the o
rganophosphorus ligands and the P/Rh molar ratio on the catalytic prop
erties of the RhCl3 . PEI system for the hydroformylation of but-2-ene
s under two-phase conditions. It has been shown that the best properti
es are exhibited by a system based on RhCl3 . PEI and modified with et
riolphosphite (P/Rh = 2), which makes it possible to carry out stable
hydroformylation with high activity and selectivity. (C) 1997 Elsevier
