Abstract
A method for mass spectrometric gas analysis based on the ionization o f neutrals by ion/molecule reactions is presented. In contrast to elec tron impact ionization, ion/molecule reactions usually avoid fragmenta tion of the reactant gases. Therefore gas analysis with ion/molecule r eactions strongly diminish the constraints of conventional mass spectr ometric methods caused by the overlap of break up patterns and thus on -line measurements are possible even for the analysis of complex gas m ixtures.
