ASPLENIUM X SLEEPIAE AND A-OBOVATUM SUBSP OBOVATUM (ASPLENIACEAE, PTERIDOPHYTA) FROM CAP-DE-CREUS, NE SPAIN

The presence of Asplenium x sleepiae (A. obovatum subsp. lanceolatum x A. foreziense) in Spain (Cap de Creus, Catalonia, NE Spain) is report ed for the first time. This wild hybrid had previously been reported o nly from France. The single plant found is tetraploid and shows up to 9 trivalents at metaphase I, a figure which agrees well with the expec ted cytological behaviour and origin of this plant. In addition, the p resence of the diploid A. obovatum subsp. obovatum var. obovatum in Sp ain, doubtful until now, is confirmed by the cytological study of plan ts from the same locality. These plants show 36 bivalents at metaphase I.
