Abstract
A field study in the Sakha Republic has been performed to characterize iron deficiency conditions in native population. Yakuts and Evens wer e examined for clinical, physiological, biochemical picture of the red blood cells and iron metabolism. European standards by total and feta l hemoglobin, reticulocytes, plasma iron metabolism in the native popu lation were surpassed. The prevalence of iron deficiency and anemia pr oved higher than in Russia and other Northern regions. Reindeer breede rs got iron deficient less frequently than population of local settlem ents. A peculiar ecological situation, life style, traditions, nutriti on habits are essential factors in hemopoietic system of the Sakha Yak uts and Evens.
