Inflated responsibility, guilt and the psychological fusion of thought
and action feature prominently in contemporary accounts of obsessiona
l phenomena. Two cases are reported in which the presence of these fea
tures can be explained by a specific formative learning experience. So
me implications for therapy are considered.
