Abstract
The exceedingly toxic nerve agent VX (O-ethyl S-(2-diisopropylamino(et hyl methylphosphonothioate) cannot be detoxified by reaction with hydr oxide ion but is rapidly detoxified by perhydrolysis (substitution wit h HO2-) presumably via an intramolecular oxygen transfer which preclud es loss of the ethoxy group.
