Abstract
The author examines the historical conflict lines between the Habsburg and Ottoman empires, the conflict between Christianity and Islam in t he Balkans, and, not least, the border areas Krajina and Ukraine, wher e Christians - Serbs and Cossacks respectively, were given a special s tatus as Christianity's vanguard against Islam.
