Abstract
Benzylidenation of methyl beta-D-glucopyranoside, followed by selectiv e 3-O-tosylation, reductive acetal opening, chlorination, radical deox ygenation and transesterification, afforded methyl ydro-6-0-benzyl-4-d eoxy-beta-D-ribo-hexopyranoside hexopyranoside 8. Subsequent epoxide o pening with NaN3 and catalytic hydrogenation led to the title compound .
