Abstract
The Huckel problem for carbon-240 involves finding the eigenvalues of a 240 x 240 matrix which is too large even for a modern computer. We s how that by utilizing the icosahedral symmetry of the molecule the cha racteristic polynomial is factorized and the eigenvalues obtained.
