A series of epoxy resins has been analyzed by measuring their heat cap
acities from 140 K up to decomposition using differential scanning cal
orimetry. The data for the solids were compared to the vibrational hea
t capacities computed using an approximate vibrational spectrum consis
ting of skeletal heat capacities (based on a Tarasov analysis) and gro
up vibrations (obtained from IR and Raman data). The heat capacities f
or the liquid were used to construct an addition scheme for the molecu
les with similar groups in their repeating unit. The glass transition
and the melting transition are discussed by analyzing the fast-cooled
and well crystallized samples.
