To have numerical measures of emotions. phychologists ask experts to m
easure relative distance between the words that express emotions, and
then attach to every emotion word a point on a plane in such a way tha
t for every two emotion words, the distance between them is approximat
ely equal to the distance between the corresponding points. It turns o
ut that the resulting points form a circle. Why? In this article, we a
nalyze this problem from a general geometric viewpoint and show that u
nder some reasonable assumptions circles are really the best fit.
