Abstract
Results obtained when increasing quantities of titanium are added to a vanadium microalloyed steel are reported. Starting with the TEM study of the particles and pearlite, the theoretical equations of Gladman, Kouwenhoven, Licka and Burnett were applied to a connecting rod manufa ctured with three medium carbon steels in order to calculate the yield strength and the impact transition temperature (ITT). Through a compa rison of the theoretical and experimental results, it was concluded th at Gladman's equation is the best equation for obtaining more realisti c results in this kind of microalloyed steel.
