Abstract
This paper introduces an original approach in the theoretical study of photonic band gap structures. We limit our investigation to the case of a two dimensional approach able to model photonic structures consti tuted by an arrangement in rows of infinite square rods arrays. First a description of the finite difference time domain method (FDTD) appli ed to photonic band gap structures is given. Then, a parametric analys is gives the interesting properties of such structures. In order to av oid the discretisation of all the structure, an original equivalent mo del is introduced in the last part.
