Abstract
To prevent a possible fragmentation of professional networks, as descr ibed in part I, the psychosocial co-worker should be flexible to negot iate his or her role. Therefore part II described areas and problems o f clinical engagement, and part III finally adds the scientific inquir y as another relevant task. Apart from gaining professional reputation , clinical studies may as well strengthen personal relationships among the professionals involved. The tendency of psychosocial specialists to isolate themselves is critically resumed with special regard to oth er psychosocial staff (clinic's kindergarden and school). This leads t o a plea for a careful recognition of the competencies of all team mem bers to assure that the positive effects of interdisciplinary cooperat ion will outweigh its possible negative side-effects.
