The quantum theory of propagation of two electromagnetic waves in an a
nisotropic medium with cubic nonlinearity has been developed. It is sh
own that in the general case the process is described by the Hamiltoni
an written for an anisotropic two-dimensional anharmonic oscillator. I
t is found that the degree of suppression of quantum fluctuations in t
he quadrature component of the wave decreases in the presence of anoth
er wave. When the nonlinear phase additions related to self-action of
the waves are different, a formation of the nonclassical state of ligh
t polarization is possible in which the variances of quantum fluctuati
ons in one of the Stokes parameters are less than in the coherent stat
e.
