A multistage amplifier based on stimulated counter-running scattering
was proposed and experimentally realized. It allowed us to bring the c
haracteristics of a counter-running amplifier closer to those of a co-
running one. It is shown that in a two-stage amplifier with a total ga
in increment of 20 and the input signal equal to 10(-5) of the pump in
tensity, one can obtain the gain approximately 10(5) and transformatio
n efficiency approximately 0.95.
