Abstract
The generation of ultrashort 85-fs pulses by a Mg2SiO4 (forsterite):Cr 4+ laser pumped by a cw YAG:Nd laser is reported. Self-mode-locking ha s been observed with no inter-cavity elements except for two prisms pr oviding a compensation for dispersion of the group velocity.
