This investigation was carried out to evaluate the relationship betwee
n the early-age properties, such as compressive strength, pulse veloci
ty, porosity, and permeability, and the long-term corrosion resistance
of plain, fly ash, pozzolanic, and blast furnace slag cement concrete
s. Results of compressive strength, pulse velocity, porosity, and perm
eability tests were evaluated up to 180 days of water curing. The long
-term corrosion resistance was evaluated after 7 years of immersion in
5 percent sodium chloride solution using electrochemical techniques.
The data developed were statistically analyzed to establish relationsh
ips between the long-term corrosion rate and the early-age properties
of plain and blended cement concretes. The results of regression analy
ses indicate excellent correlation between permeability and corrosion
rate, and porosity and corrosion rate for both plain and blended cemen
t concretes.
