Abstract
This study confirms the clinical efficacy of amoxycillin-clavulanic ac id in the treatment of bacteruria due to EBS-producing Klebsiella pneu moniae in patients with urinary catheters. In conjunction with general hygiene measures and early catheter withdrawal, systemic treatment wi th amoxycillin-clavulanic acid limits the reservoir of epidemic strain s and their dissemination. Given the frequency of relapses beyond one month, systemic treatment appears to be fully justified for patients i n short-stay hospital units.
