H. Graham et K. Malmlof, A NOTE ON THE EFFECT OF POTATO FIBER ON BLOOD-GLUCOSE AND INSULIN-RESPONSE IN PIGS, Swedish Journal of Agricultural Research, 23(3), 1993, pp. 149-152
Six growing pigs fitted with arterial blood cannulas were fed a barley
/soybean diet supplemented with 15% wheat fibre (control) or 15% potat
o tuber fiber. Blood samples were taken during 3 hours following feedi
ng. Postprandial plasma glucose and immunoreactive insulin concentrati
ons were lower at all sampling times with the potato fibre diet relati
ve to the wheat fibre. The mean and peak plasma concentrations of both
glucose and immunoreactive insulin also were significantly (p < 0.05)
reduced in the presence of the potato fibre, while the time taken aft
er feeding to reach peak values increased.
