Abstract
An experiment is carried out in the open ocean to determine how the am bient noise characteristics of an oceanic region and acoustic signals backscattered from the rough surface are related to the parameters of synchronously recorded internal waves. The results are analyzed, and t he feasibility of measuring the characteristics of internal waves both from the noise field and from the reverberation response of the ocean ic region is confirmed experimentally.
