Abstract
WHO, FAO and other organizations of United Nations (UNEP: United Natio ns Environmental Programme, UNDP: United Nations Development Programme ) have taken an energetic part in the diminution of the health risk of foodstuffs. The Codex Alimentarius Commission, a joint organization o f FAO and WHO, serves the safety of international foodstuff trade. One each working group deals with the additives, metallic and other chemi cal contaminations, residues of pesticides, labelling, sampling and an alytical methods, composition and quality problems, microbiology of fe edstuffs, residues of veterinary drugs, etc. UNDP, collaborating with the European Regional Bureau of WHO, established the four-year project ''Effective System Applications for Food Safety'' in 1988 for Eastern , Central and South European countries which have low GDP. Goals to be fulfilled by 1995 were outlined in the project. Participation of Hung ary in the work of GEMS/FOOD (United Nations Environment Programme, Gl obal Environmental and Food Monitoring System, Joint UNEP/FAO/WHO Food Contamination Monitoring Programme) is an important point of food saf ety.
