An investigation of the kinetics of the reactions of [CpCr(CO)3]2 with
alkyl halides RX (RX = BrCH2-CO2CH3, CF3CH2I, BrCH2CN, p-NO2C6H4CH2Br
), which give the compounds CpCr(CO)3X and CpCr(CO)3R, suggests that t
he reactions involve direct halogen abstraction from RX by the metal-c
entered radical CpCr-(CO)3, which is in equilibrium with the dimer.
