The catalytic transfer hydrogenation of benzaldehyde catalyzed by hlor
ohydridotris-(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium(II) was carried out in a se
aled Teflon vessel using a household microwave oven as the heat source
. Carrying out the reaction in the microwave oven produced an improvem
ent in the average catalytic turnover rate from 280 to 6700 turnovers/
h in comparison with traditional reflux heating.
