The syntheses and characterizations of two new amine oxime ligands are
described. In addition, the crystal structure of the dihydrochloride
salt of the previously reported 2-[N-(4-aminobenzyl)]amino-3-methyl-2-
butanone oxime (aminobenzAO) is reported. This structure features a th
ree-dimensional network of hydrogen bonds involving the amine and oxim
e groups, the chloride ions and the water molecule of crystallization.
The crystal structure of the nickel(II) complex of this ligand, [Ni(a
minobenzAO)2]ClO4, is reported. This structure features near square pl
anar bonding of the two oxime nitrogen atoms and the two aliphatic ami
ne nitrogen atoms to the nickel(II) atom with dangling aromatic amine
groups. A strong intramolecular O---O hydrogen bond links the two cis
oxime groups. Because of crystallization difficulty only a qualitative
crystal structure of the rhodium(III) complex of the corresponding 4-
nitrobenzyl ligand [Rh(nitrobenzAO)2 Cl2] is included. The octahedral
structure is analogous to previously reported complexes with cis oxime
nitrogen atoms, ci.5 amine nitrogen atoms and trans chloride ligands.
