NOTES ON THE PLEOMASSARIACEAE

A cladistic analysis of species in the Pleomassariaceae provides evide nce to accept Splanchnonema (including Pleomassaria) and Asteromassari a, and to add Eopyrenula, Kirschsteiniothelia, and Macrovalsaria to th e family. Keys to genera and species are provided. Asteromassaria alni , Splanchnonema horizontale, S. quercicola, and S. striatulum are desc ribed as new species. New combinations are proposed for Kirschsteiniot helia phileura, Splanchnonema carpini, S. hesperium, S. holoschistum, S. maximum, S. monospermum, S. siparium, S. thujinum, and S. ulmicola.
