Xq. Cao et al., ANODIC-OXIDATION OF HYDRAZINE ON GLASSY-CARBON ELECTRODES IN ACETONITRILE, Journal of electroanalytical chemistry [1992], 361(1-2), 1993, pp. 211-214
The anodic oxidation kinetics of hydrazine on glassy carbon electrodes
in acetonitrile were examined by cyclic voltammetry, a rotating ring-
disc electrode technique and chronoamperometry. The experimental resul
ts of the rotating ring-disc electrode prove that hydrazine is oxidize
d to HN=NH, which cannot be oxidized further in acetonitrile. Hydrazin
e molecules are adsorbed on the electrode surface. One-third of the ad
sorbed hydrazine molecules are oxidized to HN=NH and the other two thi
rds act as proton acceptors. A possible mechanism of hydrazine oxidati
on is proposed.
