M. Schmelzer et al., DETAILED STRUCTURAL INVESTIGATIONS OF HIGHLY ALIGNED LB STRUCTURES OFTHIOPHENE DERIVATIVES, Synthetic metals, 61(1-2), 1993, pp. 97-100
We investigated Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of the molecule 3-thienyl
pentadecanoic acid (3TC15). Polarization-dependent Fourier transform i
nfrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) exper
iments were performed and the results indicate that the molecules are
oriented with their long axis upright on the substrate with a weak til
t of 10-degrees. The thiophene moiety occupies an area per molecule wh
ich allows a partial interpenetration of adjacent monolayers. The dete
cted monolayer thickness of 2.33 nm is in good agreement with the mode
l of interpenetrating layers.
