PREPARATIONS AND SULFURIZATION REACTIONS OF (2,4-DI-T-BUTYL-6-METHOXYPHENYL)PHOSPHINE AND HOXYPHENYL)-2-(2,4,6-TRI-T-BUTYLPHENYL)DIPHOSPHENE

A phosphonous dichloride carrying 2,4-di-t-butyl-6-methoxyphenyl as a novel sterically protecting group was prepared and converted to an uns ymmetrical diphosphene, which reacted with sulfur to give the correspo nding diphosphene sulfide and thiadiphosphirane. The phosphonous dichl oride was reduced to the corresponding primary phosphine, which was su lfurized to a dithioxophosphorane. The dithioxophosphorane reacted wit h benzophenone to give thiobenzophenone.
