Y. Nageno et al., CORRELATION BETWEEN RADIATIVE TRANSITION-PROBABILITIES OF ND3-GLASSES( AND COMPOSITION IN SILICATE, BORATE, AND PHOSPHATE), Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 76(12), 1993, pp. 3081-3086
Compositional dependence of spontaneous emission probabilities between
initial F-4(3/2) and terminal I-4(J) (J = 9/2, 11/2, 13/2, 15/2) leve
ls of Nd'' were studied for about 90 samples of silicate, borate, and
phosphate glasses using the Judd-Ofelt theory. The effect of the coval
ency of the Nd-O bond on the magnitude of intensity parameters was est
imated from the variation of spectral profiles of the I-4(9.2) --> G-4
(5/2), 2G7/2 and F-4(7/2), S-4(3/2) transitions. Intensity parameters
OMEGA4 and OEMGA6 and the spontaneous emission probabilities were stro
ngly affected by the ionic packing ratio of the glass host. The result
s were discussed in terms of the site selectivity of Nd3+ ions in glas
ses.
