A new mathematical model represented by a linear logarithmic dependenc
e has been developed for the kraft pulping process. The principal of t
his pulping model consists of both mathematical and graphical lineariz
ations of experimental results obtained in a study of the main pulping
variables (yield, lignin content, and H-factor). The logarithmic depe
ndence of these parameters as well as their ratio and product, is line
ar for the lignin content in pulp, of less than 15% and for the values
of the H-factor of more than 500. The most suitable way for the calcu
lation of the main pulping parameters is a power form of the linear lo
garithmic relationship of yield vs. lignin, the ratio of yield/lignin
vs. lignin, yield/H-factor vs. H-factor, lignin/H-factor vs. H-factor,
and their mathematical equivalents; that is, reciprocal ratio and/or
product. This method can be applied for the evaluation of all pulping
procedures, and therefore it has a general validity.
