Abstract
It is recognized that awareness of joint position in the knee deterior ates because of aging, anterior cruciate injury, or osteoarthrosis. Pr oprioception was studied in osteoarthritic and prosthetic knees, inclu ding both posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)-retaining and PCL-sacrific ing designs. An improvement in proprioception was observed after knee arthroplasty. A PCL-retaining prosthesis was found to confer a greater improvement than a PCL-sacrificing design.
