Polyamides possess a broad technical property spectrum, inherent innov
ative power, and excellent processability. At present, about one hundr
ed new modified PA types are being introduced to the market annually,
which already offers far more than a thousand PA types worldwide. Thes
e materials are characterized by high tenacity and fastness, good chem
ical stability, good friction behaviour, long-term stability, and good
thermoforming and oxidation resistance. Heading the list are partiall
y aromatic polyamides with high rigidity and superior thermoforming re
sistance, as well as products with a higher barrier effect toward a va
riety of gases and media. Highly viscous, glass fibre reinforced types
allow economical manufacture of complex hollow body geometries by ext
rusion blowing and will further broaden the scope of injection mouldin
g, just like melt nucleus and gas injection techniques.
