Abstract
A finite element model for analysing the thermal processes taking plac e inside the casting powder layer in a continuous casting machine for round bars has been developed. Casting powders with low carbon content (C less-than-or-equal-to 6%) are considered. The model results were v erified using actual plant measurements. The sensitivity of the liquid slag thickness to variations in the mould powder properties and to va riations in the operational parameters of the continuous casting proce ss is analysed. IS/1051
