Abstract
The modified Gaussian algorithm is introduced for solving the ionized
fields of unipolar HVDC lines including the effect of wind. Specific t
echniques of incorporating in the algorithm the special structure of t
he optimization problem of the ionized field have been developed to ec
onomize the requirements for the computer memory and CPU time. Numeric
al tests are carried out on a coaxial cylindrical geometry and on a li
ne-plane geometry both in the absence and in the presence of wind. Com
parison with available experimental data shows good agreement.
