Abstract
In this, the first part of a two part paper dealing with stacked holog raphic volume gratings, transmission geometry gratings recorded in Sil ver Halide emulsion and replayed in series are examined. In the second part, volume reflection geometry gratings are examined. In both paper s experimental and theoretical results are compared. Possible applicat ions of such devices and their practical limitations are also discusse d.
