S. Ostojic et al., BLOOD-PRESSURE IN RELATION TO AGE AND SEX IN THE POPULATION OF THE ISLAND OF KRK, CROATIA, Collegium antropologicum, 20, 1996, pp. 15-20
Epidemiological studies have shown that relations between age, sex: an
d arterial blood pressure vary widely among populations. In this prese
ntation we discuss such relations in the random autochthonous sample o
f 191 males and 205 females from the island of Krh. Results have shown
positive and significant relationship between age and systolic and di
astolic blood pressure. Mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure lev
els increased with age in both sexes. Such findings made it possible f
or us to conclude that age and sex are determinants of arterial blood
pressure, although the underlying mechanisms are yet to be fully descr
ibed and understood.
